What’s in a shampoo

Sulfates clean. Silicones slip. Fragrance sells the cap. Your scalp did not ask for a perfume that sits until the next wash.

Sulfates are a tool

SLS and SLES foam because they are good at lifting oil. Fine for most scalps, a bit much for a stripped or colour-treated one. ‘Sulfate-free’ is not automatically gentler — it often swaps in other surfactants and more perfume.

What we flag

Fragrance in a leave-on serum, some preservatives, and the usual high-concern extras. A rinse-off wash is less of a story than a night cream. Still: if your scalp itches, the perfume is the first thing to drop. Scan it.
